It was the love affair that defined and scandalized a generation. Marriages were torn asunder, the Pope tsk-tsked, really big diamonds were purchased. More importantly, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were charismatic, talented and ultimately tragic. Few modern actors could easily step into these mighty footsteps without being swallowed whole, and Lindsay Lohan -- more of a Walmart version of Taylor than a close replica -- had the thankless task of tackling the job in a soapy, poorly-done Lifetime movie. The hype may have been the project's undoing. An unremarkable Lifetime movie no better or worse than the network's standard fare, this was supposed to mark Lohan's career comeback. Instead, it only gave her critics more reason to sneer.
