Biggest Movie, TV and Music flops of 2012
It wasn't a good year for Taylor Kitsch, Ashley Judd or Mariah Carey
"John Carter"
U.S. Box Office: $73 million
Worldwide Box Office: $282 million
Est. Budget: $250 million
Lowdown: When your director is telling the New York Times hid long delayed big screen adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel "A Princess of Mars" would have to gross $800 million globally to be profitable you're already screwed. The industry and consumer media pounced on the story which became a P.R. disaster for Disney. Take into account a marketing campaign that neither genre fans, moviegoers or the filmmakers seemed to like and Disney was never going to win with this one. In fact, they spent so much to just get the film's $30 million U.S. opening that the actual red ink is worse than it looks like at first glance.
