Worst: Predictable winners

For the third time in four years, one movie dominated the major awards.  "Silver Linings Playbook" won screenplay, director, female lead and picture.  Quite honestly, the fact John Hawkes beat "Playbook's" Bradley Cooper for male lead was something of a surprise. No one is saying "Playbook" isn't a fine film or worthy of kudos, but it was very clear from the reaction of the audience (who don't seem to understand the rules about figuring out Spirit winners) that "Beasts" had more support in the director and picture category.  Considering what happened when "The Artist" swept a slew of honors last year, Film Independent may want to try and revisit not only their nominations process, but who gets to vote and why.
