Worst: Treatment of the Best Play nominees
Every year, it's a Tony challenge: How do we handle the Best Play nominees. With musicals you can do a number and give audiences a sense of the show and you can also entertain them. But with a play? You can't REALLY do five minute scenes from each nominated play, can you? Not effectively. but this year's strategy -- Two clip packages, a full scene for "Peter and the Starcatchers" and then Jim Parsons reading a 30 second description of each play followed by a five-second clip -- did none of the shows any justice and won't do a thing to boost ticket sales for the non-"Peter" plays. Try again next year!
