BEST: 'Before Midnight'

BEST: 'Before Midnight'

Director: Richard Linklater
Stars: Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke
Acquired by: Sony Classics
Lowdown: This morning's announcement of the sale of this film to Sony Classics is a great conclusion to what turned out to be a very sweet festival for this third film in the ongoing story of Jesse (Hawke) and Celine (Delpy), the couple who met first in 1994's "Before Sunrise." By returning to these characters every nine years, and by including Delpy and Hawke in the authorship of the characters, Linklater is doing something very special here. He's created one of the best film series ever about the evolution of love over the course of a lifetime, and after eighteen years, I'm as invested in the fate of Jesse and Celine as they are.
