The chemistry between Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany was exceptional in this adaptation of some of the stories from the popular series of books, and even so, the movie just plain cost too much for Fox to consider making another one.  I've seen people suggest an HBO series, but I don't want to lose the sense of scale and immersive reality that Peter Weir captured so well with the film.  Many of the films on this list are adaptations of books that are part of a series, which is what makes it so frustrating when they can't get the film series to work.
