Lowdown: While Park Chan-Wook's 2005 film is an indelible, jet-black classic, twisted and perverse and raw, but the manga that inspired the film is very different, and there's certainly room for screenwriter Mark Protsevich and director Spike Lee to do something equally strong and upsetting. There's something compelling about the story of a man, imprisoned alone for 15 years, suddenly turned loose and desperate to piece together what happened and who was behind it, and if they do pull this off, a mainstream audience that doesn't know the Korean film is in for the shock of a lifetime.
