2014 Best Screenplay Oscar Contenders
This year's field of originals and adaptations is incredibly dense
"The Book Thief" - Michael Petroni (Adapted Screenplay)
Pros: A straight-forward adaptation full of the usual awards bait elements — WWII, Nazis, you know the game — could be a nice slice of nostalgia for voters, as well as an opportunity to just appreciate a good, emotional story well-told…
Cons: …or the film could just be way too soft in the end to resonate while surrounded by such rich work as "12 Years a Slave," "Captain Phillips" and "The Wolf of Wall Street." It helps that "The Monuments Men" is out of the way but, well, tough room.
