2014 BAFTA Award predictions
'Gravity,' '12 Years a Slave,' 'Philomena'... what will the Brits go for?
Best Supporting Actress
Gregory Ellwood, Guy Lodge and Kristopher Tapley predict: Lupita Nyong'o, "12 Years a Slave"
Lowdown: Jennifer Lawrence, who took the Globe in January, hasn't won a BAFTA yet, so if voters really love her flashy comic turn in "American Hustle" -- which they liked far more than we thought they would -- then the "too much too soon" factor won't count against her. Still, at this point in the season, Nyong'o has pulled ahead substantially in terms of buzz, and "Slave" is a likelier sweeper than "Hustle," so look for the Kenyan ingenue to deliver another beguiling acceptance speech on Sunday.
