The Grammys ratings will struggle

Taylor Swift's Grammy nominations special was her ball, but the 2013 Grammys Awards themselves may have considerably fewer belles than the pop-country crossover alone. Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber may be on hand for performances (for new projects to promote), but the top awards categories just don't seem to have the superstar buzz of previous years -- at least, for casual Sunday night viewers. For instance, six artists earned the most noms: One of those, Kanye West, has already said he's not planning on attending, his Watch the Throne cohort Jay-Z has a no-show history too. Rock acts fun., Mumford & Sons and the Black Keys may headline festivals and lead radio and oddly don't have the clout of someone like Adele to get casual viewers' attention. And Frank Ocean's name is too fresh. Overall, the nominations crop may be younger, but the lack in pop and rock veterans for competition viewing may make for a weaker draw.
