There were no female artists nominated for Album Of The Year, despite strong efforts from acts like Florence + The Machine and Fiona Apple. The Best New Artist boys club was only broken up by on female-fronted Alabama Shakes. Females make little or no mark on Electronica, Rap and Rock categories and barely register in Country Solo, Country Album, Country Song and Americana. Popular singers like Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift are relegated to Pop categories and features like Kimbra and Janelle Monae are on the tux coattails of other acts. Since the Academy eliminated genderized categories a couple years ago, its members still seem to be sifting through these combined categories.
