Lowdown: This was a strong category even before "Downton Abbey" made the switch from the movie/miniseries field. Figure that the "Probable" nominees are all locks and "Boardwalk," a winner just two years ago, is probably close to a lock. Keeping in mind that Golden Globe voters simply don't "get" "Breaking Bad" -- only two nominations total, both for Bryan Cranston -- you're left making strange and unpredictable calls like assuming "The Newsroom" will play well with Globes voters even though it received only mixed notices [to be kind] from critics. Globes voters like getting to be predictive, like they were in their early coronation of "Homeland" last year, so figure that "Newroom" breaks into the field along with "Downton." [Want random? The original "Dallas" received five nominations in this category in the early '80s. That won't mean anything here, but it's worth mentioning, just in case.]
