2013 Best Supporting Actress Contenders
Another round of living legends vs. young ingeues
Alicia Vikander, 'Anna Karenina'
Pro: It wouldn't be a stretch to say the up and coming Vikander overshadows her more established co-star, Keira Knightley, in Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina." As Kitty, Vikander perfectly channels her character's heartbreak after being shafted by expected fiancé Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) and makes her decision to romance Levin (Domhall Gleeson), hardly a win in Russian high society, incredibly sweet and rewarding.
Con: Focus Features is likely putting most of its efforts into best picture, best actress and below the line nominations for this one. Unless "Anna" is a surprise hit at the U.S. box office (and it was a disappointment in the UK alreadh), it seems unlikely Focus will make a big push for Vikander. But, with a race as wide open as this years, anything is possible.
