2013 Best Actress Oscar Contenders
From Amy Adams to Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Keira Knightley - 'Anna Karenina'
Pro: As the titular aristocrat of Joe Wright's Tolstoy adaptation, Keira Knightley gives perhaps her best performance yet. She works through the internal struggle and passion and external defiance and
shame of the character with ease. The Oscar nomination she has to her name also came for another Wright adaptation: "Pride and Prejudice."
Con: But she missed for another ("Atonement") while indeed being something of a perennial passover ("Never Let Me Go," "A Dangerous Method"). Plus, while the domestic release hasn't happened yet, the
film nevertheless doesn't have many critics on its side after premiering in Toronto. And it's entirely possible the film is, in the end, mostly admired for its crafts than its performances.
