Fantastic Four

Movies or TV: Movies
Why: Another of the 20th Century Fox heroes, it appears that Josh Trank, who scored a nice surprise spring hit with "Chronicle," is indeed attached to help the studio reboot one of the cornerstones of the Marvel Universe. It is a real shame that they can't fold these characters into the shared world that Marvel is building on film, because they've always been part of cross-overs in the comics. The real trick is going to be figuring out the right tone to make this work on the big screen, and we still feel like the best idea we've ever heard is to embrace the book's origins and do this as a period film. There's something about the idealism of the pre-Beatles '60s that feels perfect for the sort of big primary colors that have always been part of the Fantastic Four, and it would certainly make it stand out in a genre that is already starting to get stale from imitation.
