This may be a unique entry on a list about the end of the world. For most of the film's running time, audiences are kept guessing as to whether the frantic phone call that Anthony Edwards receives outside an all-night diner at the beginning of the story is a prank or a genuine warning of an impending nuclear apocalypse. It's this feeling of suspense that drives the narrative -- told in (almost) real time. Along the way, viewers can't help but be confronted with the question "What would I do in that situation?"
