Date of release: July 29, 2005
Rotten Tomatoes: 73%
Metacritic: 62/100
Why: Partially because of its PG rating, Disney branding and kid-focused marketing, "Sky High" never seemed to get the respect it deserved.  Sure, critics noticed giving it more than solid reviews, but the genre audience didn't embrace it. The comedy adventure mined familiar territory: the teenage son of two iconic superheros tries to live up to his parents reputations. What made it fresh - and still to this day - is it's a lot more clever than you'd ever expect it to be. "Sky" is also pretty funny for adults which isn't easy for a PG movie in the 21st Century. "High" did well at the box office, but likely suffered because of superhero family comparisons to the classic "The Incredibles" that hit theaters a year earlier.  And if you've never seen it, it's well worth a look.

*Yes, technically it's not based on a comic book, but it slyly references and so many established heroes we had to include it.
