The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Date of release: July 11, 2003
Rotten Tomatoes: 17%
Metacritic: 30/100
Why: I know this is going to be hard geeks, but forget that this movie is based on Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's groundbreaking comic book series. Yes, I know that's difficult, but just try and do it.  Then watch "Gentleman" again.  You'll be surprised how entertaining it is. There is a reason the 2003 critically lambasted adventure keeps playing on HBO, Cinemax or Encore every six months. It's watchable, has some fine performances (Sean Connery, Stuart Townsend and Peta Wilson mostly) and features some gorgeous production design and costumes. Was it as groundbreaking?  No, but I'll take that iconic image of Captain Nemo's Nautilus emerging in the Thames any day.
