Why it should be on your radar: Paul Greengrass's “Captain Phillips,” starring Tom Hanks as a sea captain taken hostage by Somali pirates, is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the fall – but rising Danish director Tobias Lindholm's similarly-themed, gruellingly tense thriller is a summer appetizer for the Hollywood film that may well be hard to top. Since premiering at Venice last year, “A Hijacking” has garnered critical rave after critical rave on the festival circuit, though the subtitles shouldn't fool you into thinking it's for arthouse audiences only: dividing the action between a hijacked cargo ship in the Indian Ocean and the Copenhagen-based negotiations between the suits and the Somali captors, it's a classical tension exercise that should prove universal.
