10 things we learned from the new 'Star Trek Into Darkness' preview
Just who is Benedict Cumberbatch playing?
Benedict Cumberbatch's mystery character has a personal vendetta
For months now, fans have been arguing back and forth that the villain that "Trek" newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock") will be playing is in fact Khan, the revenge-obsessed villain played by Ricardo Montalban in 1982's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." The new trailer offers further support of this theory, although Abrams and his cast have previously tried to to steer fans away from that conclusion. At the beginning of the trailer, we hear Cumberbatch menacingly intone, "I have returned to have my...vengeance!" This not only implies previous interaction with Starfleet and/or Kirk, but makes it clear that his evil mission is a personal one, which are both requisites for Khan. However, we still think it seems a little too predictable and easy for "Darkness" to feature Khan as the main villain.
