10 Superman arcs to prepare you for 'Man of Steel'
Which stories inspired Zack Snyder's film?
"Secret Origin" (2009)
Goyer has stated outright that Geoff Johns' "Secret Origin," and the author's work in general, influenced his script. He even went so far as to write the introduction for the arc's collected edition when he was mid-way through the first draft of the "Man of Steel" screenplay. "Geoff contextualized Superman in a way that I’m not sure has ever really been done before," Goyer wrote, referring to a line from Clark Kent in the volume that turns up in the film: "I want to be your son." Actually, the line in the film is, "Can't I just keep pretending I'm your son?" And it's in that consideration that Goyer and company found their way into a character with two fathers, and how he managed their separate influences as he set out to discover the man he was meant to be.
