Which stories inspired Zack Snyder's film?
"All-Star Superman" (2005)
Few have a way of writing Superman with wonder like Grant Morrison, and never more so than on the mid-decade "All-Star" arc. The story is not considered official cannon, but it's nevertheless one of the shining examples of recent Superman storytelling. Given Morrison's heavy influence on the character in the "New 52" era, one certainly has to imagine Goyer looked to his work when hammering out his re-imagining, and indeed, he has in fact borrowed directly from it. It's small but it's an essence. See the panel to the left? Sound familiar? "You’ll give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards," Russell Crowe's Jor-El says to his son in the film. "They will race behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
