John Byrne's post-Crisis reboot of Superman is always worth considering given its impact on the character, and particularly so given the title of the new film. The overall arc -- at the time a re-imagining of the superhero's origin that would stand as canon until "Birthright" in 1994, which was then later replaced by "Secret Origin" in 2009 -- doesn't have any big narrative parallels to Zack Snyder's film, though Bryan Singer certainly borrowed from it for his 2006 non-starter "Superman Returns." There is, however, the concept of the "birthing matrix," whereby Kal-El was sent to Earth not as a baby, but rather as a fetus that gestated on the journey there. That idea of Kryptonians meddling with genetics, well, let's just say it might rear its head in the film. Speaking of which...
