'Game of Thrones' episodes will run long this season
A lot of news outlets reported this week that "Game of Thrones" will have a super-sized third season, which isn't actually true.
The actual story, as reported on EW.com, is that episodes in this season will run slightly longer than you've been accustomed to, but probably not so much longer that you'd notice.
The show's executive producers tell EW that HBO mandates that episodes run between 50 minutes and 60 minutes and that episodes this season will be on the higher side of that range, rather than the lower side, as they attempt to fit roughly half of George R. R. Martin's "A Storm of Swords" into a 10-episode season.
Of course, if you get five extra minutes per episode over a 10-episode season, that's basically a whole bonus episode. So feel free to think of this as a super-sized season if you want to.
"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO on March 31 and episodes will be a smidge longer.
