"Thor" director Kenneth Branagh may be wearing two hats in the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot, starring "Star Trek's" Chris Pine as the Tom Clancy hero. 

Branagh has signed on to direct the long-promised reincarnation of the popular character, and is also in talks to co-star as the film's Russian villain, reports Variety.

In the as-yet-untitled film, Ryan faces a villain who is trying to permanently destroy the American economy.

Branagh helmed last summer's Marvel hit "Thor," but did not appear in the film. His other directorial credits include "Henry V," "Dead Again" and the "Sleuth" remake.

The new film is the latest attempt to revive Clancy's long-running Jack Ryan character, who was previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. The latter starred in 2002's "The Sum of All Fears."

Branagh was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting turn in last year's "My Week With Marilyn." He's played villains before in "Swing Kids" and "The Wild, Wild West."
