Who is the villain in 'Thor: The Darkest World'?

In "Thor," the Marvel Comics hero faced down his half-brother Loki (who also tormented him and his friends in "The Avengers"), but who will the Asgardian hero battle in the upcoming "Thor: The Dark World"?

Although no official announcement has been made, some Internet rumors have pieced together a possible answer: The Dark Elves.

It all started with an interview with stuntman John Grogan. “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” he told I Review Too, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self-aware and get on with it.”

In Thor lore, the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim are one of several group of elves who interact with the hero. They are led by the power-hungry Malekith the Accursed. It's possible that "Casino Royale" star Mads Mikkelsen was to play Malekith before he recently exited the sequel in order to concentrate on the upcoming "Hannibal."

The Elves' potential presence also helps illuminate the sequel's recently revealed title.
