Could Matt Damon join Jeremy Renner in the next 'Bourne' film?

What's deadlier than a highly-trained assassin? Two highly-trained assassins.

Frank Marshall has produced all of the "Bourne" films, including the upcoming "Bourne Legacy," in which Jeremy Renner steps in as a new amnesiac spy named Aaron Cross, in place of Matt Damon's Jason Bourne character.

Renner, Marshall and "Legacy" director Tony Gilroy talked to Empire about the new film, and how it fits into the original, Damon-oriented trilogy.

"You thought you were seeing something you weren’t [in the first three films]," Gilroy explained. "What if there’s a much larger story? What if Treadstone wasn’t the only black-ops program?"

"You see there are several different programs in the movie with different skill sets," added Marshall. "All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up."

If "The Bourne Legacy" is a box office hit on par with the previous films, that dream teaming may move a step closer to becoming a reality.

Meanwhile, you can see how Renner stacks up against Damon's "Bourne" adventures when "The Bourne Legacy" opens August 10.
