Is The CW considering a 'Battle Royale' TV series?
Is The CW thinking of doing a small screen adaptation of the Japanese kids-killing-kids dystopic classic "Battle Royale"? You betcha, if you believe news reports this week.
Per the Los Angeles Times, The CW has had "talks" about acquiring rights to Koushun Takami's novel, which was the basis for a successful Japanese film franchise with a domestic cult following.
The report links "Battle Royale" to "Hunger Games" (which it predated), as well as "Gossip Girl" and the CW pilot "The Selection," seemingly unaware that "The Selection" was about a dating show, not the brutal murder of school children by other school children.
Many outlets ran with this story. It could well be true.
Forgive us for being skeptical that The CW is going to put much effort into developing this property in an accurate way post-Aurora, but stay tuned.
