David Bowie shocked fans this week when he unexpectedly announced the impending release of the new album "The Next Day," his first set in a decade. What won't surprise anybody who is familiar with the artist is that he's not planning on touring off of it.

A spokesperson told the Guardian "[Bowie] writes and performs what he wants when he wants" and that he has no performance dates scheduled. Furthermore, the album's producer Tony Visconti told NME, "One of the guys would say, 'Boy, how are we gonna do all this live?' and David said, 'We're not'. He made a point of saying that all the time."

Visconti went on to clarify that Bowie never said "never": "I never said Bowie would never perform live again... He won't tour for this album -- that's all I said."
