"The Equalizer" is going to have to keep looking for a director.

"Drive" helmer Nicolas Winding Refn was slated to direct the big screen version of the '80s TV show with recent Oscar nominee Denzel Washington attached to star. However, Refn has now dropped out of the production for reasons unknown.

Washington is still set to play the lead role, a former government agent who becomes a vigilante committed to helping people when the law fails to do so. Edward Woodward played the character in the CBS drama which ran from 1985 to 1989. 

He reunited with "Drive" star Ryan Gosling for "Only God Forgives," which will be released later this year. 

The two were also planning to work together on the long-delayed "Logan's Run" remake, but Gosling departed the film last year.
