Johnny Depp's 'Thin Man' remake paused at Warner Bros.

Johnny Depp might be in trouble.

His remake of "Dark Shadows" with director Tim Burton recently underperformed at the box office, and his upcoming Disney remake of "The Lone Ranger" has had a well-publicized troubled production.

Now, Depp's planned remake of "The Thin Man" at Warner Bros. has stalled.

Although the film was never officially green-lit, "Thin Man" was in line to be Depp's next starring role and was to be directed by Rob Marshall, who worked with the star on "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." The proposed budget for "The Thin Man" was recently submitted to the studio, who likely balked at the $100 million+ price tag, according to Deadline.

The ever-busy Depp, meanwhile, hopes to take some time off before his next film, while Marshall will focus on his upcoming adaptation of the musical "Into the Woods."

The money-concious Warner Bros. also recently nixed both the live-action "Akira" remake and "Arthur & Lancelot" due to overinflated budgets. The lackluster box office of "Dark Shadows" (also a Warner film) may have also contributed to the "Thin Man" decision.

The 1934 original, based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett, was nominated for best picture and spawned five sequels.
