'Luther' creator contemplates an Alice spinoff
Is "Luther" creator Neil Cross planning a spinoff built around Ruth Wilson's nefarious Alice character?
Maybe. Kinda. Sorta.
In an interview with Variety, Cross says that he's pitched the BBC on just such a miniseries.
"The BBC is very interested in the project," Cross said. “The only real question would be how many and how often we would do it — whether it would be a one-off miniseries or a returning miniseries, a co-production or not."
Cross later said that he hasn't actually discussed the project with Wilson yet, but he expects that it would bring the steely serial killer over to America, saying "We’re kind of thinking very loosely of a mix between ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ and ‘The Last Seduction.'"
At least initially, the entirely hypothetical Alice series wouldn't include Idris Elba, but who knows?
It's unclear when any of this would happen, since Cross is currently working on the 10-episode "Crossbones" for NBC.
