Sequel to Tom Cruise's 'Jack Reacher' is unlikely

Sorry, "Jack Reacher" fans. Despite being based on one book in a series from author Lee Child, the Tom Cruise vehicle likely won't get a sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount will only go ahead with a second part if the film does "exceptional business" in key Asian territories.

The action film, budgeted at around $60 million, has earned decent but not spectacular box office since opening in late December. So far, "Reacher" has picked up $72.6 million at the domestic box office  and $80.4 million overseas.

The studio is now focusing on Japan, China and Korea, where it opens in February.

The magic number they're aiming for is a worldwide gross of $250 million, which doesn't appear likely, but is certainly possible.

Cruise's 2008 film "Knight & Day" picked up $185.5 million globally, with a strong $28.3 million coming from Japan and another $14 million from Korea.
