AMC renews 'Hell on Wheels' and then unrenews it

Good news for fans of AMC's "Hell on Wheels" - The railroad Western was renewed early this week for a third season.

Bad news for fans of AMC's "Hell on Wheels" - That renewal was pulled back later in the week and is now in limbo.

According to Deadline.com, AMC gave "Hell on Wheels" its 10-episode Monday renewal under the assumption that John Shiban would be continuing as showrunner. Then, on Friday, AMC learned that Shiban would be leaving the show -- a "personal decision" -- and decided to put the renewal on hold until a new showrunner is found.

That doesn't mean that "Hell on Wheels" has suddenly gone off the tracks. It just means that AMC isn't prepared to go forward with the show until a new showrunner is in place.

Stay tuned for more information!
