10 notable sequels that took their sweet time
Which of these belated follow-ups were worth the wait?
Sequel to: 1973's "Scenes From a Marriage"
Years between films: 30
Why it works: OK, this and its predecessor were originally made-for-Swedish-TV miniseries, but they both received theatrical release in the U.S., so we're counting it. For his swan song, prolific auteur Ingmar Bergman revisited the two lead characters of his epic "Scenes From a Marriage," effortlessly picking up on their story three decades later. Although not as groundbreaking as the highly personal "Scenes" -- which followed a string of classic films -- "Saraband" is nonetheless a thoughtful, fitting coda to the story of Johan and Marianne, and Bergman's own legendary career.
