10 notable sequels that took their sweet time
Which of these belated follow-ups were worth the wait?
'The Muppets' (2011)
Sequel to: 1999's "Muppets From Space"
Years between sequels: 12
Why it works: "The Muppets" In 2011, audiences were treated to "The Muppets," the gang's first big screen fete since 1999's "Muppets From Space." Yes, there were certainly television movies and specials between the two, but as much as we loved the Muppets waking up to "Brick House" in the morning, Gonzo's quest for his family just isn't all that great (and don't get us started on them doing a new version of "I'm Going to go Back There Someday," it was a big mistake). After lying fallow though for a dozen years, "The Muppets," through Walter, reminded us exactly why we love them in the first place. They were funny, they were heartfelt, and the songs were brilliant (an Oscar was even bestowed upon one of them) It wasn't just successful movie on its own, it has reinvigorated the franchise and a sequel is due next year.
