10 New Shows We're Worried About After Upfronts 2012
'Elementary,' 'The Neighbors' and 'Mob Doctor' are among the shows that have us on edge
'Elementary'
"Elementary" (CBS)
Thursdays at 10 p.m.
Why we're worried: Even if "Elementary" is really good, it'll still always face comparisons with BBC's "Sherlock," but if it's only so-so (or, perish the thought, awful) it'll just get crushed by the weight of those expectations. Plus, the big revision made by the "Elementary" creators is making Watson a woman, which might be interesting except that with TV writers, men and women working together can't exist without Unfulfilled Sexual Tension, which is fine for "Castle," but unnecessary for Sherlock Holmes and Watson.
Why it it could still end up OK: Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are a pair of strong leads and if the show avoids just becoming another cookie-cutter CBS procedural, they could make things consistently interesting. Perhaps no new show seems as capable of going either way, success or failure, which explains why "Elementary" is the only show to make our "Anticipated" *and* "Concerns" galleries.
