10 New Shows We're Worried About After Upfronts 2012
'Elementary,' 'The Neighbors' and 'Mob Doctor' are among the shows that have us on edge
Mondays at 8:30 p.m.
Why we're worried: A show based on the real-life working relationship of its creators (David Kohan and Max Mutchnick of "Will & Grace" fame) doesn't exactly sound like an intriguing prospect - unless, of course, there's an interesting back-story worth mining. Unfortunately, the "one's straight, one's gay" hook employed by "Partners" feels dated and redundant (an impression not at all assuaged by the unfunny promo). If this stale-seeming concoction was the only mileage Kohan and Mutchnick were able to get out of their own lives, maybe it wasn't the best idea to begin with.
Why it could still end up OK: Admittedly, some of TV's greatest comedies came saddled with not-terribly intriguing premises ("Friends," "Seinfeld," "Cheers"...need I go on?), so if "Partners" can at least come up with some fresher material than what's presented in the promo there's still hope.
