10 most heart-stopping moments in 'Breaking Bad' history
2. Walt watches Jane die
Episode: Season 2, Episode 12 ("Phoenix")
In one of the series' darkest moments, a rare shot at happiness for Jesse is crushed alongside Walt's increasingly myopic desire to consolidate his power as his increasingly bold and amoral Heisenberg alter ego. Even if he felt his action (or, more to the point, inaction) was justified, Walt crossed a moral line here in allowing Jane (Krysten Ritter) to die in such an ignominious manner and to subsequently let Jesse carry the burden of guilt, only to finally reveal the truth late in season 5. A heartbreaker on several levels.
