10 most heart-stopping moments in 'Breaking Bad' history
1. Half of Gus's face is blown off
Episode: Season 4, Episode 13 ("Face Off")
One of the most downright disgusting moments of the series also happens to be the No. 1 vote-getter among the HitFix staff, and the reason for that probably lies in the unforgettable nature of the visual itself: after being checkmated by Walter with the help of a strategically-placed bomb and Hector's frantic bell-ringing as he realizes Gus is about to poison him, Mr. Fring emerges from the room post-explosion seemingly unscathed - until, that is, the camera pans around to the other side of his face, which has been completely shorn off by the blast. Props here must first and foremost go to the "Breaking Bad" special-effects team - who managed the grisly effect using a combination of CGI and makeup techniques - with a special mention for whomever came up with the nice touch of having the characteristically-neat and tidy Gus primly adjust his tie before falling to the ground.
