10 least-deserving Oscar winners for Best Original Song
'Say You, Say Me' from 'White Nights' (1985)
Why it didn't deserve the win: “Say You, Say Me’s” win was a bit of a miracle given that the Lionel Richie tune and “Separate Lives” (performed by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin, written by Stephen Bishop) were both from “White Nights,” which is a bit of a rarity outside of Disney musicals. Plus, the song topped more efforts from “credible” musical songwriters, such as Quincy Jones and Marvin Hamlisch. But as far as a Lionel Richie song goes, it certainly was no “Dancing on the Ceiling.”
Better choice: “The Power of Love” (“Back to the Future”)
