Prince - 'Raspberry Beret'

After the monster success of 1984's "Purple Rain," Prince pushed the envelope further and experimented with new sounds on the poppy-psychedelic "Around the World and a Day." "Raspberry Beret" was the album's first single and peaked at No. 2 for just one week, stalled by Duran Duran's James Bond theme "A View to a Kill." Although it's still a crime that "Beret" never wore the Hot 100 crown, at the time The Purple One was turning out hit songs every few months and would soon rule the chart again with "Kiss."
