'Gremlins 2: The New Batch'

"Gremlins 2: The New Batch" takes the loopy, physical humor of the first film to its outre extremes, this time loosing the nasty little monsters from the first movie inside a high-tech New York City office building. Lighter and more slapstick than the original, the severe change in tone was famously the result of the far greater amount of creative freedom Joe Dante enjoyed following the success of the first film, and the blast of pure visionary energy on display is almost breathtaking. Venturing into the realm of pure satire without losing the sense of audience-pleasing fun that made the original such a success, it's a very different film than "Gremlins" and arguably a better and smarter one.
