The first appearance of the Caped Crusader's arch nemesis the Joker came in the pages of "Batman" #1, approximately a year after Batman himself first stepped onto the scene in "Detective Comics" #27. Christopher Nolan and company always mentioned the book as an inspiration for the events and tone surrounding their spin on the character in "The Dark Knight." Whether it's the Joker's sneaky poisoning of Commissioner Loeb in the film or his moment of disguise as one of Gotham City's finest, much of the character's anarchic tactics and motivations stemmed from this story.
