Levon Helm
Commanding drummer and singer of The Band, Helm's solid beat and Arkansas twang helped define classics from the tragic "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" to the playful "Up on Cripple Creek." He died of complications from throat cancer on April 19 at age 71.
