Elvis Costello, "Secret, Profane & Sugarcane" (Hear Music)
Produced by T Bone Burnett, this set is a bit of odds and sods. It combines bluegrass and country interpretations of many Costello tunes intended for placement on other projects with four songs commissioned by the Royal Danish Opera about Hans Christian Andersen. That would be a pretty tricky segue in the hands of anyone less masterful than Costello. The whole project was recorded in three days in Nashville; guests include Emmylou Harris, which pretty makes it worth the price of admission.
