'John Carpenter's The Thing'
Year First Released: 1982
Director: John Carpenter, of course
Why We'd Consider: One of the nice things about seeing "The Thing" in a theater is being able to reassure yourself that Rob Bottin's gnarly make-up effects are onscreen, and there's no chance of them spilling into the audience, so why not take away that feeling of safety? A great conversion on this film would trap you right there on that isolated research base along with everyone else, and when things get wet and nasty, it would happen right in your face. As it is, Carpenter did a masterful job of making you feel like you're right there in the middle of things, and this would be a chance to make the fear even more immersive.
