Year first released: 2001
Director: Baz Luhrmann
Why we'd consider: We're still waiting for the first new live-action musical to get released in IMAX, but 3D might be the next barrier broken for Hollywood's song-and-dance masters. If any modern day musical should test the 3D waters it's Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge." Like Jeunet, Luhrmann has seemingly been directing for 3D his entire career and he's officially taking the splash with his upcoming "Great Gatsby." That may make the latest adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel a more immersive journey into the rich world of the Roaring Twenties than many are anticipating, but "Rouge" would be an even better choice for 3D. The pitch for "Spectacular Spectacular?" Satine and Christian's "Elephant Love Medley?" Satine's introductory "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" number? Screw tradition. We're there.
