Year first released: 1999
Director: Andy and Lana Wachowski
Why we'd consider: Producer Joel Silver has said that he hopes the Wachowski's 1999 cyberpunk showcase "The Matrix" doesn't receive a post-conversion to 3D because he believes only films conceived and actually shot in the format can succeed with it. And that's fair enough. Nevertheless, it's hard to argue that the texture of the film and it's visionary effects sequences would be spectacular if converted with care. Imagine the various "bullet time" shots or the moment when Neo can "see" The Matrix. It would be eye-popping. But perhaps the point is the fact that it's so eye-popping in just two dimensions is already a testament to its visual brilliance.
