"Bates Motel" (A&E, spring TBD)
Once upon a time, Norman Bates was just a socially awkward teenage boy who worked at the family inn and really liked spending time with his mother. How did he go from that to the protagonist of a Hitchcock classic? Well, A&E has entrusted "Lost" veteran Carlton Cuse and "Friday Night Lights" veteran Kerry Ehrin with finding out. The strong cast includes Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factor" veteran Freddie Highmore as shower aficionado Norman. Audiences and critics weren't overwhelmingly enamored with either "The Girl" or "Hitchcock" in 2012, but maybe this is the approach to The Master of Suspense that we've all been waiting for.
